today I picked up this.
For those not in the know, Warren Fellows and Paul Hayward were caught in 1978 in Thailand trying to smuggle Heroin from there back to Australia. They both spent 12 years in a thai jail before getting a Royal pardon.
2 pages in, Warren is talking about being in solitary confinement when he heard a fellow inmate screaming out from being in incredible pain. He convinces the guard to let him check on him, the french inmate had a huge lump on his neck near his ear which was moving. They got a razor and cut it open, maggots start pouring out. A cockroach had crawled into the other prisoner’s ear and nested in his neck somehow.
Something tells me this is going to be a great read.
